Cheese is the goal, right?

We had to write a tanka in class the other day, but I didn't get to finish the one I was working on. So I made a new one. Saying it's cheesy is kind of an understatement, but I had fun. =)

Tanka: an unrhymed Japanese verse form of five lines containing five, seven, five, seven, and seven syllables respectively

January snows
Shall never dampen our days
The happy flakes dance
Across the fields like fairies
Knowing spring will come again.

Cheers,
Lauren

Shaken, by Hawk Nelson

Here are the lyrics to another song I really like. I'm putting the video in the videos I like section.

I've stood alone a million times
That's not the same as being alone
I've felt ignored, and left behind before
But that's not the same as being disowned

Open my eyes, and help me see
that there's a world outside of me
I'm no different, I want to make a difference tonight

The words don't always come out right
And I don't normally cry
But you didn't see the look in her eyes

I've been shaken
From my head, on down to my toes
Lord use me, take me where you want me to go
I can't help it, my heart has been replaced with a face
I'm ready, these hands are dedicated to change

I've hurt before, but held inside
I've seen their tears, 'cause pain is something they can't hide
What makes us different?
We have a chance to listen tonight

The words don't always come out right
And I don't normally cry
But you didn't see the look in her eyes

open my eyes

I've been shaken
From my head, on down to my toes
Lord use me, take me where you want me to go
I can't help it, my heart has been replaced with a face
I'm ready, these hands are dedicated to change

I've been shaken
From my head, on down to my toes
Lord use me, take me where you want me to go
I can't help it, my heart has been replaced with a face
I'm ready, these hands are dedicated to change

Christmas song

Hey all,
I just thought I'd share a song that I've heard a lot on the radio this Christmas season. It is really cool, and when I saw the music video/behind the song video I started bawling. :/ Hope you enjoy it.

Lyrics:
It’s the news that no one hopes for,
Every parent's greatest fear
Finding out the child you love so much
Might not make it through the year
Now the thought of spending Christmas
Without him just feels wrong
They’ve been praying for a miracle,
Now they're praying he can just hold on
(chorus)
For one last Christmas one last time
One last season when the world is right
One more telling of the story
One more verse of Silent Night
They’d give anything so he could have
One last Christmas
Middle of September
Still seventy degrees
Daddy climbs up in the attic
Brings down candles
Hangs the lights on all the trees
Then the neighbors started asking
And pretty soon word got around
First it was the neighborhood,
Before too long they lit up that whole town
Chorus
Twenty-seventh of October,
His time was wearing thin
Friends and family, even strangers
That they didn’t know brought presents in
He was weak but he was smiling
Like there was nothing even wrong
They said he wouldn’t make it,
Looks like he got to see it after all
Chorus

Cheers,
Lauren
P.S. I still want to do a D.C. blog, but I've not yet had time to really sit down and write. Hopefully I'll get to that in the next couple of days.

Quotes of the month

Hey everybody! I wasn't sure I would be able to do any quotes this month, but I recently had to read Marcus Aurelius, Meditations. It's basically his journal of personal quotes. Anyway, some of them are really neat, and others are just plain funny, so here's my QOTM, all from Marcus.

Hippocrates, after curing many diseases, himself fell sick and died.

On every occasion, a man should be able to say: this comes from God.

A scowling look is altogether unnatural; when it is often assumed, the result is that all comeliness dies away, and at last is so completely extinguished that it cannot be lighted up at all. Try to conclude from this very fact that it is contrary to reason. For if even the perception of doing wrong departs, what reason is there for living any longer?

Direct your attention to what is said. Let your understanding enter into the things that are done and the things that are doing them.

Life must be reaped like the ripe ears of corn:
One man is born, another dies.

Everything exists for some end, be it a horse, a vine.

…He who pursues pleasure will not abstain from injustice, and this is plainly impiety.

You have but a short time left to live. Live as on a mountain. For it makes no difference whether a man lives there or here, if he lives ever there in the world as in a state (political community). Let men see, let the know a real man who lives according to nature. If they cannot endure him, let them kill him. For that is better than to live thus as men do.

A totally useless post wherein I tell you things you already know.

Hey everyone! As most of you probably know, we are leaving today to go to D.C. for the Oireachtas. (Wish us luck!) I'll upload pictures and hopefully give an update on how that went shortly after we get back.

Anyway, I'm super super pumped! :) Gotta run! (Or should I say dance? :)

Let us give thanks

BE THANKFUL
~~Author Unknown.~~

Be thankful that you don't already have everything you desire.
If you did, what would there be to look forward to?

Be thankful when you don't know something,
for it gives you the opportunity to learn.

Be thankful for the difficult times.
During those times you grow.

Be thankful for your limitations,
because they give you opportunities for improvement.

Be thankful for each new challenge,
because it will build your strength and character.

Be thankful for your mistakes.
They will teach you valuable lessons.

Be thankful when you're tired and weary,
because it means you've made a difference.

It's easy to be thankful for the good things.
A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who
are also thankful for the setbacks.

Gratitude can turn a negative into a positive.
Find a way to be thankful for your troubles,
and they can become your blessings.

I hope you all have a wonderful day!
